August 2018
Welcome Kindergarten Students and Parents,

As summer continues I have begun planning for the fall, and I am looking forward to seeing you at Green Mountain School and in our Kindergarten class.

Kindergarten is a very exciting time!  You will be making new friends, learning new things, having fun and exploring your world.  Some of the special activities you can look forward to are:

  • King and Queen of the Day
  • Visit to the Pumpkin Patch
  • Read Across America Day
  • Dental Hygiene Week
  • Exploring the Science of Motion
  • Making Classroom Books
  • Animals Science Unit
  • Plus many more!

Each week you will take home our class newsletter called “Kindy News”.  In the “Kindy News” your mom, dad or grandparents will find information about what is being taught in our classroom, activities you can do to practice what you have learned and notes about future events.

The School Board and PTSO will be hosting a Classroom Visitation and Ice Cream Social on Monday, August 27th from 5:30-6:30.  Bring in a 4x6 picture of your family and your school supplies.  You can come and see our classroom, and do some special activities.

I am so excited about school starting and can’t wait to see you for the Ice Cream Social.

Washington State requires all full day kindergarten classrooms to participate in WaKIDS (Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developmental Skills). This has 3 parts: first is that I work with pre-school providers to make the transition to kindergarten easier for students and families; second is a half hour conference with each family as school starts; and lastly an observational assessment of beginning skills. The afternoons of Wednesday, August 29th; Thursday, August 30th and Friday, August 31st have been set aside for those conferences.  Students will not attend class during conferences, therefore there is no kindergarten in afternoons the first week of school (there will be a special bus run on those days).

The conference will include information about classroom routines, homework expectations and what you can do to help your child be a successful student.
