March 2012

Dear Parents and Green Mountain Families,

On behalf of all of our students and staff here at Green Mountain, I want to extend our gratitude for your tremendous support for our replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy on February 14th.  The families and community members of Green Mountain have once again provided our students with a wonderful gift of support for their learning.  Your financial support and willingness to share your energy and talents with our students and staff make our school an incredible place for learning!

As we near the beginning of our third trimester and we are excited for the learning opportunities ahead.  Parents please mark your calendars for our upcoming conferences on March 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.  Each of those days will be a half day of school ending at 11:30 for our students.   As you know, your attendance to the conferences will provide you with a clear understanding of the efforts that your child is putting into their academics and time to meet with our teachers.

We are looking forward to performing an array of songs and skits for our families and community members at our Spring Program at the end of this month on March 29that 7pm.  Please join us for our Read Across the World effort this month.  We began our reading journey on Friday, March 2nand will be combining our total reading minutes as a school to reach London, England and return to Green Mountain by March 30th.  We chose the destination of London to highlight the coming Summer Olympics.

We are grateful for the continual support and communication that we receive from our families and community members about our students and school.  Please enjoy the beginning of Spring!

Dear Parents and Green Mountain Bears,

The Holiday Season is upon us and our second trimester has already begun.  We are very grateful for all of the time and support that our parents and community members consistently provide to our students and staff for large events and the daily support of each school day.  I am especially thankful for the tremendous number of hours of volunteer support that our PTSA members and their families have given to our students, school, and staff.  Thank you so much for sharing your energy and time with us!

We enjoyed a great Carnival Night on Oct. 29th and our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon was very well attended. Each of these community events provides all of us with the opportunity to enjoy fun and laughter together at our great school!  We are very happy to welcome many of our community members and their guests into our school for these events.  Be sure to mark your calendars for Thursday December 15th at 7pm so you can join us for our Christmas Program.

Please enjoy the holidays with your family and friends!  Make time to continue your traditions and make new memories.  Have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

On the back side of this page you will see the upcoming events and key calendar dates for the months of January and February.

Our Replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy is coming soon!

As you may already know, our school district will be presenting a Replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy to all voters in our school district on February 14th 2012.  The funds from this Replacement Levy will provide our school district with the financial resources to continue supporting our students, staff, and program needs on a daily basis.

On November 22nd our School Board approved a four-year levy that will maintain a set collection amount during the four year term.  Our community approved our current levy in 2008 which included the total collection amount of 400 thousand dollars for the 2012 calendar year.  This Replacement Levy for the (2013-2016) term will have a set collection amount of 400 thousand dollars for each year.  There will be no increase in the collection amount during the four year term.

Our levy provides an estimated 30 percent of our total school district budget for daily school operations each year.  Please prepare to cast your vote when the mail-in ballots arrive to you between Jan. 27 and Feb. 14.  To get more information about our levy please contact our Superintendent Joe Jones at joe.jones@greenmountainschool.us or by phone at 360-225-7366.  Our school district website also has additional information at http:// www.greenmountainschool.us

Sincerely,

Mr. Jones

October 2011

I am hopeful that the month of October is off to a great start for you and your family.  Our students, staff, parents and community members have all contributed to a very successful first month and a half of school.  We enjoyed a good turn-out for our Open House & Curriculum Night on September 21st.  The opportunity to share the learning experiences that we are providing for all of our students with our families and community is always a lot of fun.

As we near the mid-point of October we are now preparing for our first round of parent conferences.  Please be sure to confirm the individual conference time with your child’s classroom teacher.  Attending the conference time is a very effective way for you to further your knowledge and continue your efforts to support the learning experiences of your student.  Our Parent Conferences will be held on Oct. 19th, 20th, and 21st.  We will have a half-day schedule on each of those days with our school day concluding for our students at 11:30 am.  If you have not made an appointment for a conference please call Suzette.  Our Green Mountain Annual Fall Carnival that is hosted by our PTSA will be held on Saturday October 29th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM

If you are interested in being a parent volunteer during the week or on field trips, please stop by and pick up the required information forms so that you will be able to share your time and energy with our students and staff.  We are looking for volunteers to support our classroom learning experiences and library time during our recess periods each day (10:00 – 10:30 & 11:30 – 1:15).  Thank you for your time and support of our students and school.

Enjoy the fall weather and be sure to come out and join in the learning and fun with our students here in Green Mountain!

Summer 2011
Hello to all Green Mountain students, parents, and community members,
As the fun of summer time continues the energy and excitement for our new school year is beginning to emerge.  We are very fortunate to welcome two new teachers to our Green Mountain team, Mrs. Alysia Aldred (2nd Grade) and Mr. Kevin Tully (7th & 8th Grade).  You will get to know more about each of them as you read further into this issue of The Gazette.  All of our teachers have been meeting together to plan and prepare for great instruction for our students and our office and maintenance staff members are diligently working to prepare our facilities and programs for the coming year.

We are beginning our second year of implementation of the Envisions mathematics program for our students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade.  Our teachers have been very focused on creating more depth in the individual units by integrating the most useful materials and concepts from the Investigations program.   We will also be continuing with our Second Step program which focuses on building positive communication, behavior, and social skills with our students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade.  We are really looking forward to working with our students and families to further develop their knowledge and skills for using the strategies they are learning with this program.

With the month of July coming to a close I know that our students and families will begin to make preparations for the start of school.  Please contact our main office with any questions you have so that we can assist in making the start of the year for you and our students as smooth as possible.  We are looking forward to seeing you at the PTSA Ice Cream Social on August 29th here at school.  Please see the classroom supply lists in this issue and be prepared to bring your school supplies with you on the night of the social so that you can place them in your classroom with your teacher.  I am hopeful that your summer continues to go well and that you and your children are enjoying the extra time together that summer provides.

Positively,
Mr. Jones

December 2010
Dear Parents and Green Mountain Bears,
Our second trimester has begun and the excitement of the holiday season is upon us!  The fall was full of success and growth for our students and school in our academic and social learning.

A quick review of the first third of our school year quickly brings to mind all of the smiles, excitement, and great learning experiences our students and staff have been engaging in each day.  I feel very blessed to be a new member of the Green Mountain school district and community!  The weather has also brought some interesting challenges and opportunities for us to create memories and practice our ability to be flexible.  Due to the early snow we postponed our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon.  We had a very good turn out and everyone who came to lunch, left with a full tummy and a big smile!

The magic of Green Mountain is created by the collective energy and hearts of each member of our school and community.   Please enjoy the holidays with your family and friends!  Make time to continue your traditions and make new memories.  Have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

Positively,

Mr. Jones

September 2010

Hello to all Green Mountain students, parents, and community members,

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a new member of the Green Mountain community and school district.  The past couple of weeks have been full of meeting new people and learning great things about our school and community.  I am looking forward to the beginning of our new school year and to meeting all of our students and more of our community members.  The energy and excitement for the new school year is certainly something that I enjoy sharing with everyone!

Our staff members have been working very hard to prepare our curriculum, materials, and facilities for the coming year.  You may remember that we have a brand new mathematics program for our students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade.  The program is called EnVisions and we will be providing more information about how you will be able to best support your child in their learning experiences at home.  We will also be working with a new program that is focused on building communication and developing positive behavior and social skills with our students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade.  The name of this program is Second Step and it also has a component that encourages our students to share the information with their families as they learn how to utilize the new skills that have been presented to them.  In terms of the work on our facilities, Mr. Wheeler and Mrs. Goglin have been working very hard at cleaning, painting, and improving all of the classrooms and buildings on our campus.  The new fence on the lower playground area was just completed and it will provide our students, staff, and community with a safer environment for our school and community activities.

As the first day of school comes closer, I know that you will be making your final preparations for a great beginning.  Please contact our main office with any questions you have so that we can assist in making the start of the year for you and our students as smooth as possible.  I am looking forward to meeting you (hopefully at the PTSA Ice Cream Social) and very excited to begin learning with you.  I am hopeful that your summer continues to go well and that you and your children are enjoying the great weather and fun that only summertime provides.  Together WE will make this a great year for learning!

Positively,
Mr. Jones
