Hi,
This week’s homework all stars are Payton, Jase, Shawn, Drevon, Gracie, Kalli, Nick, Dillan, Grant, Rachel, Luke, Alden, Jenna and Heighlee. Way to go!
Students are making continuous progress in recalling math facts quickly and accurately. Current “addition masters” are Ian, Jase, Shawn, Luke, Heighlee, Jenna, Krissen, Maia, and Rachel. Shawn also is a “subtraction master”, multiplication master” and “division master”! Keep practicing.
Real life is messy and division creates leftovers. When I need to put 19 students into cars where there is room for 4 to ride in each car, how many cars do I need? Some students feel that if there are leftovers, it won’t work. Enjoy a conversation with your student about leftovers and division.
Story development is gaining energy. Students have selected a setting and some characters. This week they will develop some events with a problem. Ask your student about their story. As they share, listen for a beginning that tells about the setting and the characters. In the middle events should introduce a problem which the characters try to solve. Finally, the end of the story tells how the problem is resolved.

Spelling Words Practice Activity Ideas (Student Choice – Thursday)
1. Paint your words. Make them fancy.
2. Glue yarn on pieces of heavy paper to spell each of your words. Close your eyes and have someone give you the cards one at a time. Feel the yarn on each card. Say the word and spell it.
3. Write your study words with chalk on the sidewalk. Make the words big.
4. Trace your words with your finger in sand or on sandpaper. Repeat each word twice. Say the letters softly to yourself as you trace them.
5. Cut letters out of the newspaper or a magazine to spell your study words. Paste them on a piece of paper.
6. Create a graphic design with your words. With a pencil, lightly outline a design or picture. Outline the perimeter of your design with your spelling words or fill in the interior of your design by writing each spelling word several times.
7. Using the beginning letter of each of your study words, write same-letter sentences. “Susan sent seashells to sailors swiftly.”
8. Make a crossword puzzle or word find with your words.
9. Write your words using one color for vowels and another color for consonants.
10. Make up a secret code. Write your spelling words in code. Give your list to another person to decode.
11. Write a story. Try to use each of your words at least once. Check the spelling of each word.
12. Type your words on the computer using different fonts or word art.
13. Write your words ten times in marker or colored pencil. Change colors each time you write it.
14. Write an acrostic poem using the letters in your words.
