Welcome to the Green Mountain School District Wellness Page!
The Green Mountain School District is committed to providing a school environment that promotes and protects our students' health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. On this page, we are please to provide you with information on our school's Wellness Policy along with resources to help your children and your family be the healthiest they can be.
Wellness Committee
Why do we need a Wellness Committee? The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 made significant changes to the federal school lunch program, including setting new nutrition standards and promoting student wellness. Districts are required to establish wellness policies, designate officials to ensure policy compliance, encourage public comment and input, and assess the district's progress made in attaining wellness goals.
Who is on the GMS Wellness Committee? The GMS Wellness Committee consists of staff members, parents, and health professionals that promote student wellness by developing, implementing, and reviewing district policy for nutrition guidelines, nutrition education and promotion, physical education and activity, and other school-based activities. New members who have an interest in serving on the Wellness Committee are encouraged to contact the school's food service coordinator and join the team!
